opti 2008: SEIKO Optical expands its portfolio with the first fully organic high-tech lenses worldwide and consolidates its technological superiority

Wire brush and drop-ball test for fully developed Seiko technology at opti 2008 / robust SEIKO ORGATECH spectacle lenses are available for the first time in the popular organic material 1.60 index as well as 1.67 index

opti 2008 - Munich/Willich, 11 January 2008. Spectacle wearers expect their lenses to be very good-looking, easy to clean, scratch-resistant, transparent, heat-resistant and shock-resistant; in other words they expect the greatest possible longevity and perfect optical quality. Seiko Optical, the company well-known for optical products belonging to the lifestyle-oriented high-tech concern Seiko Holdings Corporation (Tokyo, Japan), has met this challenge in a special way. Thanks to a completely new approach to organic lens coating the technological leader was able to develop the first fully organic lens Seiko Orgatech. Among other things they are heat-resistant up to 85 degrees Celsius and can endure a pressure of up to 100 kg without being damaged. This robustness has never been equalled before and the Seiko Team demonstrates it through various impressive tests such as the “wire brush torture” or the drop-ball test (the ball weighing 228 grams corresponds to the American standard) at the International Trade Fair for Trends in Optics opti 2008 in Munich (11 to 13 January 2008) in hall C3, stand 308.

Seiko Orgatech was introduced in 2007 in the super-high 1.67 material and in different designs, as a single-vision lens as well as a progressive lens. Now the Seiko Orgatech product line has been expanded with the popular high-index 1.60 material, also available as a single-vision lens and as a progressive lens. Continued developments in technology, ensure that the SEIKO brand is positioned as a world leader in the optical market.

Frank Lautenbach, Product Manager Lenses with Seiko Optical Europe (Willich): “Due to the extended product line, a total of nine fully organic lens products are now available manufactured worldwide. We can now offer spectacle wearers and opticians - who attach importance to good looks, wearing comfort, reliability and functional efficiency - a wider range of our innovative top product. What’s more, the handling of Seiko Orgatech lenses in the workshop is safe and easy.”
